Karazhanbas

Karazhanbas is an oil and gas field in Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, on Buzachi half island. It refers to the North Buzashinskoye oil and gas field.

It was opened in 1974. Deposits are at depth of 228-466 m. Oil production rates are 1,2-76,8 m3/day. The density is 939-944 kg / m ³, the sulfur content is1.6-2.2. A characteristic feature of the oil is the presence of vanadium and nickel. Initial oil reserves are estimated at 70 million tons.Production center is the city of Aktau.

At present the deposits are being developed by OJSC "Karazhanbasmunay" (office in Aktau). The shareholders of Karazhanbasmunai are CITIC is and Kazakh oil company, Exploration Production "KazMunayGas" 50%, respectively. Oil production in 2008 amounted to 2 million tons.
