KPMG International has captured three prestigious 2014 International Accounting Bulletin (IAB) Awards, presented in London on 16 September:

  • "Audit Innovation of the Year"
  • "Sustainable Firm of the Year," for the third consecutive year
  • "Social Networking Champion of the Year," for the second consecutive year

Audit Innovation of the Year

The award for “Audit Innovation of the Year” recognises KPMG for its ‘Lean in Audit’ approach, which applies the widely used Lean business improvement methodologies to the financial statement audit. KPMG firms are introducing Lean methodologies into audits across the global member firm network, including in Australia, the US, Canada, and the Netherlands, and the response from organisations has been overwhelmingly positive.

Larry Bradley, KPMG Global Head of Audit said: "We are delighted that the IAB has recognised our Lean in Audit approach. It is an example of genuine innovation that strengthens audit quality and thereby benefits organisations and ultimately their stakeholders."

Sustainable Firm of the Year

Citing the KPMG principle of “strong commitment to running a sustainable business,” the award recognises the global network’s success in meeting emission reduction targets as well as for significant investment to support communities across KPMG member firms. IAB highlighted KPMG collaboration with Enactus, which spans more than 30 countries, enabling students to make a difference in their communities, while developing skills to become responsible business leaders.

Lord Michael Hastings, KPMG Global Head of Corporate Citizenship, commented: “We are extremely proud to be named Sustainable Firm of the Year for a third consecutive year. It reinforces our belief that as a global corporate citizen we have a responsibility to our communities, the marketplace, and to our people to contribute to a sustainable world."

Social Media Networking Champion of the Year (Global level)

For a second consecutive year, KPMG International received the Social Media Networking award. IAB noted significant KPMG growth in its social media engagement across channels ( It also pointed to the continued growth and enhancement of the KPMG WEFLIVE service, which for a third year captured in real-time the Twitter conversations of delegates attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. For 2014, the WEFLIVE service was enhanced with improved filtering, search, and data visualisation features.

"As we have greatly increased our visibility and participation on social media, and continued to expand our innovative WEFLIVE service, it is an honour to again receive this recognition from IAB,” said Isabelle Allen, KPMG Global Head of Sales and Markets.
